Though I'm not at uni this week due to the Easter holiday, I wanted to get the the cars finished. I got the low poly models of the soap box cars done and have now baked them (though the bake only worked on them and the other didn't work. I am still having problems with high to low poly bakes). I've also got the textures done for both of the models.

The image below is the high to low poly bake that was successful:

All the textures for cars. Forgot to add the normal map to the V2 sheet. For the V1 normals, I used a height map to create the normal map

Over the weekend I created the high poly version for one of the soap box cars. Also, the day after I posted my last weekly summary I was given another concept piece to work from, which again was from my team mate Nick. So I created the high poly version of that soap box car too. During the week and still working on getting the low poly versions of both models done.

Other concept piece I was given can be seen below:

High poly model renders for models:
(Side note: I usually do mental ray renders of my models before I done the textures, however for some bizarre reason, my mental ray isn't working on my computer at home. So I have done these on one of the normal renders in Maya)

As I stated in my other post this week, I've done research in the form of mood boards with links so my team would have something to reference whilst doing concepts:

(The valiant Hearts mood board was a style mood board for how the artistic direction)

Group Project

For the second part of BA2a, we have to get into teams and create a game. The brief we were given for the game was 'one button'.

My team and I had an ideas discussion and try to figure out what type of game we wanted to create.
Some of the ideas involved an on the rail shooter, tower defense game and a racing game. We came up with the style of neon 80's as we thought it would be an interesting style. We were going to go with the tower defense idea, however we were advised to change it. So we went with the soap box racing idea. I was also given my first concept piece to work from my team mate Nick, so I can create a 3D asset. The concept piece that my team mate gave me can seen below:

We also assigned roles to each member of the group. For the team, I was assigned the role of team leader and 3D artist. Before I started to do any 3D enviroment art, I'm doing/done some research for the team. Which I shall post all in a separate post.

As team leader I created a time table and created a basic to do list for my team:

BA2b: Collaborative project

BA2b: Collaborative project

For the first project for BA2b, we have to work in a team with two other different course. We had to chose an object and an emotion, my team chose pencil and serenity.

First off we looked at what serenity meant, I put everything I thought of serenity in a mood board.

After our first crit we decided to go along the routes of art therapy, as with artist we use pencils or any other medium to relax or to bring us inner piece, if we are stressed.

In addition to the serenity mood board, I also got my team an art therapy book so we can get inspiration.  In addition, I brought in my own comics so we can get an idea of comic book panel layouts. (A few images from the art therapy book and comics we looked at can be seen below)

The other games students who specializing in 2D  went away with the ideas and created illustrations of different stages of going through art therapy. The graphics student experiment with the typography and the layouts of the comic once the 2D artist finished their illustrations. These are the 2D artist illustrations:

3D Mock Up

Whilst the 2D guys were drawing, I was modeling the mock up of the our idea. When I finished modeling, and once the illustrations, typography and layout were set I placed the comic on to the model. The idea of of the pencil is it contains the comic inside itself and one can then colour in the panels of the comic.
