Week
One
First
thoughts on Maya: At first I’m daunted by Maya, as unlike Zbrush I
can’t use my graphics tablet create 3D models. However, I am
determined to learn how to use it. We have yet to get our full brief
yet for the project, however we’ve been tasked to do studies on
architectural element from building.
Also,
I am quite enthusiastic about the project I have been given, as I
love my architectural studies.
Things
to work on this week: Practice with Maya, so I can be confident with
it
Week
Two
Still
daunted by Maya, however I am enjoying far more than I thought I
would. Done some architectural studies and, in my opinion, have
turned out really well. For a side project, during Easter
holidays I created a blimp, so I could get use to Maya. Though, yes the
typology could be way better than it is (it actually quite bad), and there is a lot more I
can do to it to make it more efficient, but I am pleased with how it
has turned out. From this, I feel more confident in using Maya.
Week
Three
This
week, I spent most of it getting textures for my models as we have
been shown how to do UV maps. UV mapping I will have to admit is
still an enigma to me, as I have yet to fully understand it. But
practice makes perfect, as the saying goes.
Manage
to get more studies done too, I manage to model some aspects of
buildings around Norwich.
Things
to work on this week: Need to understand UV mapping more, and
actually do it.
Week
Four
This
week I manage to understand how to do UV mapping, to which I was able
to UV map one of my models; my chimney study. Manage to apply a bump
map to my model as well to give the model more texture, without
adding more polygons to my model.
Week
Five
This
week with have been given our project; our project is to create a
folly. As I have a few ideas for what to do my model and I have
already done a 3D iteration for my design, as well as 2D iterations.
Note:
Not to keep on my first iteration for the folly, might try something
else.
Week
Six
I
have finally decided what I want to do for my folly to which
modelling was underway and now have completed. I’ll have to admit
now I am really enjoying Maya, defiantly want to go into 3D now.
Things
to work on: Clean up my model, get rid of all the ngons in my model,
and sort out some the sections of my model as the typology is a tad
poor and can be greatly improved.
Things
I need to do: Finish UV maps and texture my folly, then add
bump/normal map and also add a spec to the model. The time frame for
this is to do this over the weekend, so then I can focus on the
turntable and other stuff for my project.
Week
Seven
My
folly is now finally finished. It’s fully UV mapped, textured, with
bump/normal maps added, spec map added, turntable completed and asset
sheets completed.
Thoughts
on the project: I have really enjoyed this project and I have loved
using Maya.
Things
to work on: After this project I am going to continue working with
Maya and practice more with it, as I want to improve my skills with
Maya.
Note: I might actually continue with this approach with the reflective journals as I kept it up to date
